The German auto-giant, BMW has announced the price options for the 2014 BMW X5 SUV, confirming that the entry-level model will launch for $53,725 – an uptick of $5,300 compared to the outgoing model.
For the new model year, BMW has added another entry-level model in the form of the sDrive35i – the first X5 to launch with rear-wheel drive. The other variants on offer including the the xDrive35i, the xDrive35d and the xDrive50i all come with four-wheel-drive for a price which started at $52,800, and bring the total price up past $80,000.
According to BMW, each and every X5 option for the 2014 model year has been significantly improved in terms of both performance and fuel-economy.
The rear-wheel-drive sDrive35i and all-wheel-drive xDrive35i will both use a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder generating 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. BMW says the new all-wheel-drive X5 is 0.2 second quicker from zero to 60 mph (6.2 seconds). The top-trim xDrive50i gets a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 generating 445 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. The new xDrive50i covers zero to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, a 0.4-second improvement.

Those who tow can opt for the xDrive35d. It uses a revised 3.0-liter turbodiesel six-cylinder developing 255 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. All models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 2014 BMW X5 goes on sale late this year, with the diesel model expected early next winter.
